| | I am back in Kuching again after a long weekend in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Went there last Friday night and came back last Tuesday after Gawai.
Scheduled to be the last trip out of Kuching before our baby is born, this trip is indeed a very relaxing and memorable trip, not only for both Pat and I but for my other two buddies as well. This time, both of us didn't go alone but are joined by another two of our friends and thanks to one of them who drove us around, we managed to travel in Sabah in another different way, a more thorough way, in the way which is impossible without a car and the knowledge of the roads there.
Our flight to Sabah was delayed by 30 minutes and we arrived there at 30 minutes pass midnight on Friday. It was a tiring journey but we were greeted by two friends of ours who were waiting at the terminal with our rented car. We went for a drink before being sent back to the hotel at 1 Borneo.
We stayed at Tune Hotel for during the 1st three nights of our stay. 1st night was a sleepless night. Even though it was a tiring journey for us, we found it difficult to sleep in the new environment. Tune Hotel KK seems to be a little smaller compared to the Tune Hotel in KL. Although it is equipped with a flat screen tv (17 inches I think) we were unable to watch it as we need to pay for the usage. I think the rate is almost the same with the rate you need to pay in order to use the aircond so we didn't bother to pay for it. Not only the room is smaller, the lobby, the entrance to the rooms is also in a worse condition. We have difficulty finding our way at first because we thought the corridor leading to the room is some sort of uncompleted construction for certain facilities. Despite going to bed at almost 2 in the morning, we woke up around 7 the next morning. After we had our breakfast, we left for Mount Kinabalu which is situated about 2 hours away from the place we stay. We managed to stop by on the way to see the mountain views as well as buying some souvenirs. We didn't climb to the peak but enjoyed ourselves with the fresh air at the National Park leading to the mountain trail. We then drove to Kundasang to a small town called Ranau (if I don't remember it wrongly) for lunch before heading to Poring Hot Springs. The road was long and winding but our skillful driver found no difficulties in conquering the mountain roads.
We started out around 9 in the morning and were back to our hotel by 6.30pm. Not much places have we been to but it was a tiring journey (I think more tiring for our driver who have to concentrate on the road the whole day). That evening, we went to have seafood for dinner. At the place we went to, the food was superb and affordable. We had some snails, which I have no idea what its name is and some fresh steamed prawns which are so juicy and sweet (not to mention very fleshy too). So, we woke up later the next day and went to Manukan Island for a half day trip. Beautiful island it is and we enjoyed the scenery very much. I am keeping the photos entries at its minimum so more photos can be seen here. Then came the next day. Pat and I are so blessed to have the opportunity to stay at one of the famous resorts in KK, the Sutera Harbour during this trip. As Magellan Sutera is a more expensive place to stay in, we decided the Pacific Sutera will be a better place for us to enjoy our final day in KK. The resort is a little old, that includes the rooms and furnishing although the lobby and the resort as a whole is still considered a very nice place to be be.
Service is top notch and the scenery is great but comparing to KL Hilton which we have stayed in before, KL Hilton is a much more better place to be. The only feature better in Sutera Harbour would be the sea view...
As always, holidays are always short no matter how long it is. The time to leave for our hometown has come and we reluctantly leave for the airport. It will be the last trip out of Kuching that we are going to have for the next few months or even one or two years given that our baby is due in Dec and we are going to be very busy with the newborn then...
One thing about traveling with good friends are the beautiful moments and the laughters shared among all which makes the holiday more fun compared to traveling alone. Frankly, I enjoyed the companion of my two buddies so much and these are the things that no 5 stars hotel or food can satisfy. The joy of being together with close friends, going places together, sharing experiences together are really priceless.
However, traveling alone with your loved one brings another different kind of pleasure. The romance, the tranquility, the time to fall in love again with each other, to reembrace and rekindle the loves with your partner or spouse which might have deteriorate due to the busy schedules every day. The exploration of new places and new experiences together, the creation of stories to be told to the next generations...
This trip, I have gotten the GOOD of Both way of travel...
